Set 20 years prior to the events chronicled in 2004's futuristic role-playing game, Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, Baten Kaitos Origins follows a blue-haired protagonist named Sagi and his two loyal companions. The party finds itself in a perilous predicament when Sagi is unjustly blamed for an emperor's murder in a rapidly changing world. Gameplay involves escaping through a series of urban and pastoral environments as players engage in a battle system that once again uses collectible "Magnus cards." Unlike 2004's game, however, the battles now take place in real-time, giving the action a new sense of urgency. The party can also acquire hundreds of weapons, armor pieces and items throughout the adventure, as well as over 600 distinct cards. Baten Kaitos Origins offers an estimated 80-plus hours of play, taking into account the main story line and optional side quests.
