Three Reasons Why You Should Give Children Gifts

It doesn't have to be your own child. It could even be your neighbor's. Giving gifts to children is like you being Santa Claus; only that you don't have to wear this red suit and ride around on a sleigh being dragged around by reindeer.

Even if we're not living in the North Pole or if it's not Christmas time just yet, we should still give children presents and gifts. Why? There are several reasons actually, but count out the more obvious reasons like birthdays or special occasions like a graduation or first communion or whatever it is you and your family usually celebrate about.

You don't even have to be ridiculously rich for you to be able to give your children gifts; in fact, you don't even have to spend a whole lot of money for it. Here are a couple of reasons why you should give your children gifts.

1. It'll bring you closer to your kids.

Always remember that it's not the gift alone that makes children love you more and appreciate you better; it's also the way you give it to your children and with what you say or do as you hand whatever present it is to them.

Being able to share something that they love with your children is surely something that will help improve your relationship with each other. After all, not every single parent all over the world is lucky enough to be a mother or father while at the same time be their best friend or let alone their friend.

At such a young age, it would be a whole lot easier for us parents to be able to make a connection rather than making several attempts during their adolescence wherein our window of being able to become a real part of our children's lives would start to close.

2. It will make them feel more special.

There's a fine line between spoiling your child and making them feel extra special. In fact, it sometimes gets too close to call that one can and most likely mistake one from the other. However, giving a gift to your kid every once in a while will surely make him feel special, wanted and of course – loved.

Children, as you may have noticed, always love it when your attention is focused on them and that you're not too busy thinking about something else. Presents and gifts are somewhat a material reminder that we are here and that their happiness is a priority to us.

Make sure as well, that you will have a follow through after giving a present – it would be pointless to give your kid one if it doesn't mean anything to you at all.

3. It will teach them how to share.

Parents are considered to be a child's first role model, so to speak. If you are the generous type and being a good example to your children, they will most likely follow suit after you. Who knows, maybe at some point in time they too would be returning the favor by giving you a gift. It may not be a diamond ring or anything, but it surely will have a whole lot of sentimental value.
