Other forms of puzzles are crossword puzzles. Any word buff would love to solve this type of puzzle. So here are some tips that should help you get through with it. 1. Avoid rushing. The first thing you should do before you answer any item is to read the clues. Clues for crossword vary. Some will ask for an abbreviation. Others will ask for a synonym while some would be a simple fill in the blank clues. Going through all the clues will surely give you an idea which ones you are familiar with and which ones you are not. Through this, you will be able to mark the clues that you can answer easily or prioritize which number to answer first and which ones to leave blank at the moment. 2. Answer first the numbers you know. If you start with the harder ones, you will end up spending too much time thinking about that particular word and it might result to you getting too tired to answer the other numbers. Keep in mind that the more numbers you are able to answer the more clues that you have. Remember that crossword puzzles go across and down and each word may a have a letter or two in common. With more answers, you eliminate more clues. Continue doing this until you are left with the words that you have to think about or spend more time. 3. When dealing with hard and unfamiliar words, you can always turn to the thesaurus or the dictionary. Using these two will help you figure out the particular word that will fit perfectly on the number of boxes allotted. You don't have to punish yourself by squeezing your brain dry. Remember that there are no rules regarding the use of dictionaries. Depending on the clue you can also refer to other books like the Bible or Encyclopedia. 4. If you are using a pen instead of a pencil, avoid writing your probable answers directly into the boxes. The erasures will not only look dirty but it can also cause some confusion. If you have written a lot of probable answers on the boxes, the letters can get mixed up and you will run out of space to write your final answer. So instead of doing that, you can write your temporary or possible answers on the sides or any blank paper on hand. 5. Once you solve a clue, do not forget to crush or mark it. Doing this will give you an idea as to how many clues you have solved and how many are left. It will also help you on deciding which clue to concentrate on. |
