Do you remember the days when there were no video games and people would rely on the simple entertainment that was offered by board games? Well, board games haven't lost their flair just yet. In fact, there are many new board games that are finding their way into the mainstream toy market. But it's the classic ones that we will forever remember. Here are the ones that seem to be games that we will never forget. • Scrabble – Who can forget about scrabble? It's about the only decent game out there that deals with the creation of words by use of a limited number of chips. Two to four players can play this classic; each player trying to form words with letter tiles on a 15 x 15 grid. Of course, the game only allows for permitted words in the English language but this is a great way to get together with friends and learn new words at the same time. • Monopoly – Remember the many times that you wanted to be a railroad tycoon? Or the moments when you upgraded that hotel in the most posh street on the Monopoly board so that anybody that landed on your spot would have to pay a hefty sum as rent? Yes, such is the charm of Monopoly and this is one game that will never lose its charm. What can be more fun than rolling the dice and moving your character around a board as you buy up property and have others pay you rent when they land on your spot? After all, it is named after the economic concept of monopoly and it's through this that the concept can ever be legal. Object of the game? Drive others into bankruptcy. Up to 12 players can play this game for endless hours of fun! • Snakes & Ladders – Probably not as famous as many board games out there, this game deserves recognition for how simple it is. On a board containing 100 spaces placed out like a grid, one has to roll the dice and make it to the 100th space first. The problem is that if one lands on a space with a snake's head on it, that player has to follow the entire length of the snake down to the tip of its tail which is usually further down the grid. However, ladders help to accelerate a player's move and allow one to move forward and closer to the goal. • Cluedo – Now this was the original game that allowed players to be detectives. Set in a mansion, the board is split into different rooms. Each player represents a character in the mansion and a certain Dr. Black is to have been murdered in the mansion. The task of the players is to find clues and later on deduce how Dr. Black was killed and what murder weapon was used in whatever part of the house. This is certainly a game that can give the hit series CSI a run for its money as it is still being played and enjoyed today. |
