Five Business Tips From The Game Of Monopoly

Monopoly is just a game, right? In all manner of looking at it, it really is just a game. However, people can actually learn a quick lesson or two about business just by playing the game with friends or colleagues. There are many things about the game that are just so closely related to the actual business-playing field than one actually thinks.

Of course, playing the game will not make you better at doing business with people. But there are a few things that you can improve just by modeling yourself after your style of play on the Monopoly board. Here are a few things that you might learn from the game itself.

• Do It Yourself – When you play the game, you roll the dice, you move your character around the board and you make the decisions. This can't be put any simpler than that. This is what everyone can take away from this game. Life's decisions are something that you should make by yourself. Sure, you can have a little advice from friends and colleagues, but in the end, the decisions you make will be yours and yours alone.

• Be Nice – When you play a game like Monopoly in a nice way, this is something that should be reflected in real life as well. You can still do business and be nice at the same time. You gain nothing by being stern all the time and always being stressed out. Business may matter but your health and the health of your relationship with others should matter more. So be nice in your business. It worked well when you were playing Monopoly, win or lose, right?

• Keep It Simple – Business may seem like something that requires a scientist to decode but this shouldn't be the case. Business should be straight-forward and simple, just like a game of Monopoly. In the game, you buy up property, improve it so that its value goes up and sell it if you need the money or you can buy up more property if you can. This is a simple and fundamental idea. This is the kind of thinking that you should have when you are conducting your own business. It's simple and applicable.

• Do More – The key to any business is to take risks when you can. Do you see an opportunity that will benefit you in your future? Then take it. Much like on the board game when you purchase a property so that people pay for landing on it in the future, so should be your thinking when you invest in something that you believe will be of interest to your consumers. Take risks and with the right control and patience, your business should benefit from the fruits of your labor.

• Sometimes It's Boring – Ever got stuck in a game of Monopoly that just seemed to be downright boring? Well, business is exactly like that. It's boring. But that doesn't mean that you should quit. You should just keep on going until you end up on top of the game or until you are finished. The important thing is that you did your business right and didn't hurt anybody along the way.
