Adults get thrilled when they receive gifts but nothing compares to a child's expression after he or she opens that box with a big bow tied around it. When children receive gifts, you can see nothing but sheer joy on their faces. You can see their wide smile coupled with shrieks and screams. Children tend to be appreciative and no matter how simple your gift for him or her may be, he or she will shower you with kisses along with the magical line “Thank You.” If you think that buying gifts for children is as easy as 1, 2 and 3, then you are wrong. Children have various preferences with each age group wanting a specific something. It is not a good idea to buy a gift fitting for a 10 year-old and then give it to a 3 year old. In order to help you when shopping for children's gifts here are a few helpful tips. 1. If you haven't really spent that much time with the child and are not really that close, the best way to find out about the child's preferences about gifts is to ask. Don't be shocked with his answers; it is natural for a child to want a lot of things. You can always ask him what his top choice is. When asking him, try not to be too obvious or else it will ruin the surprise. Try to act as natural as possible as if you are simply curious about his interests. 2. When you already have a general idea as to what type of gifts he prefers, it would be better if you make a list. This list can be really long so after listing everything group it and then crush out the items that are really not into his preferred category. Do not forget to narrow your list to at least 3 or 4 items because too many options can cause confusion. Always decide first before you finally purchase the item. 3. In case of doubts you can always do a little research. Gather children that are about his age or children that belongs to his age bracket. Ask them about the gifts they want to receive. Whatever is the majority's answer is most likely your recipient's choice too. If it's not, then you go along with his preference. 4. This is still the best way to shop for kid's gifts; simply bring the child along. Take the child shopping while at a toy store and let him roam around to see what type of toys he prefers. You can do a little spying in other words. His actions will reveal more information about the gift he wants to receive or he'd rather receive. Children can be picky so it is highly recommended for you to have enough information about his or her preferences when it comes to gifts. Never purchase a gift when you are having second thoughts because the risk for you picking the wrong item is high. |
