Kids have several inclinations ranging from different games to different sports. It would be a great idea for your child to experience all of these so that he can determine for himself which one he really wants. Sometimes kids might stick to a certain game like say hide and seek if he is only limited to a few options and choices. Limiting his choices for sports and games would cause him to fail to realize his own talents and skills since he would never get an opportunity to try to discover them. If Michael Jordan never played basketball a single day in his life, do you think we would still know him as the basketball legend that he is now? Perhaps not. It's important that we as parents should see these opportunities to developing our children into future athletes or geniuses. 1. Help him determine whether he is the intellectual or the athletic type. Who knows, he might even be excellent in both right? During your children's childhood years, it's a great time for us parents to try to determine as to what our children's strengths and weaknesses are. Just like a car, it's important that we know their limits and their capabilities so that we would know how to maintain that certain level of performance. Our children can also do such things. They can develop their talents and refine them into a level that they are not even able to realize yet. Plants need to be nurtured as early as when they have just sprouted so that they can grow into the mighty trees that they can be. Children need to be guided into the paths that they might one day want to take. Allowing them to try out what their strong suits are and helping them realize for themselves that they have such talents would also encourage them to strive for excellence. 2. If your child has a certain weakness, help him overcome it. Children who aren't as skilled at sports or in certain games aren't hopeless. They can still do something about their problem. It's never too late to say that they can be great at something. Or if they aren't as talented as other children may be, they can try to improve themselves and try to overcome that handicap that they might think they have. Children who think that they aren't good at playing basketball or baseball will never have any room for change. How can they improve on their skill if they've already decided for themselves? A battle can't be won if you already know that you're going to lose. When learning something, it's important that you start with a glass that's empty so that you would have more room to fill it up. While there's still time for your children to overcome these weaknesses, seize the moment and do something about it. Who knows, your children might just be too shy for them to admit to you that they aren't so good at a certain thing. |
